Week 1: Day One – LOVE
Scripture Reading: John 3:16

Do you love chocolate cake? It’s easy to say we love cake … or donuts … or fried chicken! Love is a funny word, isn’t it? We toss it around like a softball or baseball when we’re playing catch. It goes from one thing to another easily. We love sports. We love our favorite TV shows. We love our favorite action heroes. We love our favorite food. We love that new girl or boy who just moved into town. We love playing video games, reading books, or skateboarding. You name it, and you’ll hear someone say how much he or she loves it. Did you know that God’s definition of love isn’t always like our own? When God talks about love, He isn’t talking about ooey-gooey feelings we have somewhere in our hearts. He’s talking about a commitment. He’s talking about a choice. He’s talking about putting someone else ahead of ourselves. Love can be defined as “compassionately and righteously pursuing the well-being of another.” Love is an action, not an emotion. And it’s a responsibility God has commanded us to live out. The apostle John tells us, “Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God” (1 John 4: 7). Love is what we’re to do. Be. Feel. And experience. Not just when something yummy pops out of the microwave or our favorite team wins the game. We’ll talk more about love tomorrow.

But for now, let’s say 1 John 4: 7 aloud enough times to learn it by heart. Let’s start with short sections of the verse and add more until we have memorized the whole passage.

Semana 1: Día Uno – AMOR

¿Te gusta el pastel de chocolate? ¡Es fácil decir que nos encanta el pastel ... o donas ... o pollo frito! El amor es una palabra graciosa, ¿no? La aventamos para aquí y para allá como una pelota de béisbol. Va de un objeto a otra fácilmente. Nos encanta el deporte. Nos encanta nuestros programas de televisión favoritos. Amamos a nuestros héroes favoritos de acción. Amamos nuestra comida favorita. Amamos esa nueva chica o niño que acaba de mudarse a nuestro salón. Amamos jugar videojuegos, leer libros, o andar en patines. Escucha bien y oirás a alguien decir cuánto él o ella ama cualquier cosa. ¿Sabías que la definición de amor de Dios no siempre es como la nuestra? Cuando Dios habla acerca del amor, no está hablando de sentimientos emocionales que tenemos en algún lugar en nuestros corazones. ¡Está hablando de un compromiso! Está hablando de una elección. Está hablando de poner a alguien más delante de nosotros mismos. El amor puede definirse como "persiguiendo el bienestar de otro con compasión y justicia ". El amor es una acción, no una emoción. Y es una responsabilidad que Dios nos ha mandado vivir. El apóstol Juan nos dice: "Queridos amigos, amémonos unos a otros, porque el amor es de Dios, y todo el que ama ha nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios" (1 Juan 4:7). El amor es lo que debemos hacer. Ser. Sentir. Y experimentar. No sólo cuando algo sabroso sale del microondas o cuando nuestro equipo favorito gana el juego. Hablaremos más sobre el amor mañana.

Pero por ahora, digamos 1 Juan 4:7 en voz alta suficientes veces para aprenderlo de memoria. Comencemos con secciones cortas del versículo y agregue más hasta que hayamos memorizado todo el pasaje.
